How do I prevent rooftop avalanches from crushing my condenser?

Lesson learned! The recent series of snow storms caused the gutters on one side of our shop building to drop off under the pressure of excessive snow and ice buildup. Installing snow guards may have prevented the avalanche and subsequent damages. No one was hurt, but inside it sounded like the roof was caving in!

As the ice and snow begin to melt to make way for Spring, snow guards may be a sound investment to protect your gutters, personal property, landscaping and most importantly people. They are commonly installed in rows on a home’s roof to prevent damaging avalanches. The number and type depend on a roof’s shape, size and pitch. Snow guards should not be confused with heat tape, used to melt snow and ice faster, but the two make a great pair.
