As a direct result of the Administration’s tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which took effect in March, a ripple effect is taking place in the HVAC industry.

The 25% tariff on foreign steel and 10% on aluminum will raise manufacturers’ costs for materials needed to build heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment. In fact, according to Joanna Turpin, a senior editor at achrnews.com, a popular source of industry developments, “Manufacturers started raising prices on their equipment last April – anywhere from 2 to 12 per cent, which will ultimately hurt consumers.”

In addition, a threat remains that the Administration will add a 25% tariff on other products from China, which manufacturers compressors, controllers, and other components in heating, ventilation, air-condition, and refrigeration systems.

This is unwelcomed news for HVAC vendors and consumers alike.
